Shirring elastic double pack from Habee Savers includes both black and white elastic, each on a 20m spool. Suitable for beading necklaces, bracelets, smocking, gathering, and strengthening cuffs. Conveniently packaged with 2 colour options. Shirring is the name commonly used for sewing with soft, thin elastic thread in the bobbin only, gently gathering the fabric as an elasticised row of stitching is produced. Shirring can feel more comfortable than when regular elastic is used. Where several rows are sewn parallel to each other, a band of soft and flexible elastic is produced. This can create a garment that is both attractive as well as comfortable to wear, for example as in a bandeau top or when used on the top of a skirt. This feature is also commonly used for children's clothing, as the effect creates a soft and flexible result ensuring a good fit.
Hint: Wind evenly onto bobbin by hand. Thread machine as for ordinary sewing, using regular thread with medium sized needle and medium tension. Medium stitch length should be used, the longer the stitch the tighter the shirring. Feed fabric evenly and flat while sewing. Secure ends of elastic thread by knotting together or stitching down securely. Press by hovering a hot steam iron 1” above the shirring and steam the fabric.
